I love sharing success stories - here is a great one from John Moralee in WA. Over to you John Hi Pete, I just wanted to share a quick story with you mate. 3 months ago I went to my doctor feeling tired, rung out and not good. As you can see from the test results 2 days (28/06/14) after my doctors visit the proof was in my blood and at this point with my follow up visit the doctor wanted to put me on cholesterol medication, he also took my blood pressure which was 143/94 not good by any stretch, oh did I mention I was pushing close to 98kg as well. I’m a 5’8” person of muscular build and exercise 3 days a week with my wife and my PT but I was heading in way the wrong direction for a sustained long life. As another measure I was cycling weekly and struggling with extended rides and energy and at this point I was bench pressing only 60kgs in our strength training sessions. My wife Lindsey had been reading about the Paleo way of life and by chance on a buy and sell forum two tickets came up for your Perth Seminar, so we attended and were most impressed with how it all finally made sense. Lindsey had been so hesitant about us trying the Paleo way due to my high cholesterol but after the seminar that weekend we emptied the cupboards and changed our lifestyle for good. So what went? Anything that is processed food, all added unnatural sugars, dairy almost entirely and definitely grains and gluten, no need to go into everything we eat now. Within 3 days I wasn’t craving any foods and to my surprise actually enjoying more the natural healthy food that I was eating, I must thank my wife more than anyone else in the world for reading and researching so many yummy recipes, she is truly my rock in life. As a measure today you will see my cholesterol results below at 3 months from the first one and my BP is down to 115/76 and heart rate is way down, scales tell me I’m down to 87kgs today ( not that I take notice of them). Strength has never been greater and two months in I managed to bench press 120kg, yes double that of 8 weeks prior with no extra exercise and only a food change. My cycling endurance has grown amazingly and on the weekend (5/10/14) Lindsey and I competed in our first cycling event which was in country town in WA called Beverley, it was a 50mile (82kms) historic event which took in about 30kms of gravel road and lots of rolling hills and farming country, an added bonus was the constant rain, mud and corrugated roads as well huge winds for the last 30kms. I was really worried on how we could hydrate for such a long event more than 4+hrs on the bike and instead of the usual commercial sports drinks made up some natural ones with Honey, Salt, Bi-carb, Lemon juice and some mint leaves from our garden, this more than sustained us for the whole event along with good food bars. Our next one is the Ride to Conquer Cancer in WA on the 18th and 19th so two weeks away and this will be around 110kms day one and 115kms day 2 to raise money and awareness for cancer research. So what’s changed? Almost nothing but the way we eat. Sure there are times when I travel or am out and about that you need to just stop and make heathy choices, it’s so simple to do now and we don’t beat out selves up too much if we are stuck for food choices away from home as long as we make the best we can at the time, there are always options where ever you are. Thanks again Pete and feel free to share my story and test results below on your facebook page or blog, oh and that’s the doctors writing “Big Drop from 28/06/14” I told him to give me 3 months and I would prove him wrong. And a follow up from John recently..... Hi Pete thanks for the response mate, I have just kept building on this and kept the weight off even over the xmas period, got fitter an stronger than ever, Lindsey made everything from scratch and it was the best xmas feast we had ever had and didn’t feel bloated at all, feed a family of 10 for xmas dinner. She even made homemade blueberry icecream with no sugars or anything bad but using cashew milk made from raw cashews in our thermomix, the beef and pork on the bbq were both organically grown and the vegies were all freshly bbq roasted, it was great mate well invite you over next time, haha. Take care good to go at my end mate and you have our support for the cause of getting people to just start to think about natural healthy choices. Now to just work out how to have a beer without wheat and sugar? Any ideas?
