I *love* the Silmarillion. But seeing this broken down into - TopicsExpress

I *love* the Silmarillion. But seeing this broken down into beautiful pages highlights something thats always made me uneasy. Melkors fall, according to the Silmarillion, occurred because he sought knowledge, and because he spent time alone. He dared to have his own voice and ideas, to be different, and was punished for it. Iluvatar chides him for having any ideas that dont come from Iluvatar. Beauty comes from the play of light and shadow, opposites and compliments. Classical composers knew how to use touches of discord and minor keys to elevate their work, some of our best paintings are primarily darkness touched with light. I get that its based in Christian faith, but it always made Iluvatar seem weak, selfish, and insecure in his power. It also highlighted that he can yell as loudly as he likes about nothing comes from anyone but me, but if nothing comes from anyone but you, then that darkness sprang out of you, too, and you might need to think about your internal logic there, god-buddy. It will, perhaps, come as no surprise that these are the same bloody issues I have with religion... (But I still love Tolkiens work to a ridiculous degree, and this commic is stunning.) evanpalmercomics/ainulindale/
