I love the article. It is interesting and brings up some really good points. I agree, so many people thank veterans for their service but it has almost become common place leaving veterans wondering if it was rote response or genuine. When I thank a veteran for his service, what I am really doing is thanking them for their sacrifices because the military requires many sacrifices and because of veterans’ sacrifices, I do not have to make those sacrifices. When the draft was reestablished, I signed up because if I was called upon, I would serve and make those sacrifices but because of those that voluntarily volunteered, I didn’t have to. Yes, I am thankfully for every veteran and appreciate the many sacrifices that they have made on my behalf so that I didn’t have too. Selfish on my part, do doubt about it.
