I love this letter, not because the mother has such depression, but because she brings up a lot of good points. I dont think formula is poison- its mostly chemicals, yes, but its scientifically formulated to meet an infants nutritional needs. Lily was on it after two weeks of life because despite my best efforts, I just could not produce enough to keep her full. And at the time I couldnt afford a pump to try and get things going. My hope is that I can breastfeed this next one for longer, but if I cant, then formula it is. Do I feel guilty about it? Yes. Every damn day. Because breast really is best. But do I regret it with Lily? Nope. And I wont regret it with this second child either. Because both of my kids will be healthy and fed and Ill have formula to thank for it. To all of the moms (and non moms) who look down on those who use formula... shame on you for judging. You have no idea of the situation another mother is in. Dont go acting high and mighty because you believe your way is the only way to raise a child.
