I love this poem, which I first heard read in elementary school by our English teacher. He always looked sad, and had no wife, or girlfriend that we ever saw...and always sat alone, especially at lunch time. He actually had the track of a few tears on his cheeks, that moved as slowly as the sorrow he bespoke, as he read this aloud. We were very young, but our stoic silence indicated that we understood, in a naive kind of way. I never forgot that man, as he was the first person I saw regularly that was smitten so hard by life that he froze literally in a time frame that no one else could see, or were permitted to enter. The only passion he had left in life was for words, and books, and poetry...and, his only companion - loneliness - at every tete-a-tete. His was a heart-felt, and beautiful recital...the greatest of performances...to an audience of innocents, who somehow metered the scope...and at the least, this one small fan, still recalls.
