I love this post so, so much. Im this parent. I take my kids to the frackin pool and I sit and read, or write book notes, or, YES--zone out to the point that I can see them but I hear nothing. Kids need free-rein. They need to go and play and NOT HAVE MOM HOVERING OVER THEM EVERY MOMENT. Go ahead. Give me the stank-eye for being on my phone while my kids are at the park. Youll get a quietly raised middle finger from me. ;) For the record, I also dont over schedule my kids in every possible sport or activity, or spend tons on birthday parties, or buy them extravagant gifts or baby them when they lose a game. This makes me quite horrible, Im sure. babble/parenting/and-the-playground-stand-of-stink-eye/
