I love to fly like a bird when I get a chance:) The first image - TopicsExpress

I love to fly like a bird when I get a chance:) The first image is me jumping over a 56 inch hurdle/tape that was measured 14 inches from the 42 inch hurdle and this was done a couple of months ago. And the second image is of me doing an acrobatic dunk on a regulation rim. Before Cross-fit ever existed with these box jumps that people do these days there was “jumping over hurdles” vertically with two feet as an explosive plyo exercise which is really a true jump:) When I was at Cal State Fullerton competing as a sprinter in the preseason for practice we would jump over a flight of 42 inch hurdles like a pogo stick/kangaroo for explosion purposes and this was a plyometric drill. It is a lot harder jumping over a hurdle and completely clearing it with your body and feet then jumping on top of a box. These days I care more about being functional and athletically fit than aesthetically fit meaning the ability to still be able to jump high, run fast, have quickness, great endurance and have good quick hand eye coordination. Being functional and athletically fit doesn’t not mean walking from one weight lifting station to the next to pick up a 100 pound dumbbell weight nor does it mean having ripped abs. I can still do the same acrobatic dunks on regulation-10FT that I did when I was 19 and it’s because I still train in a functional athletic way. I truly believe if you train in a functional and athletic way than the athletic ability you had when you were 19 or 20 shouldn’t diminish that much as you get a little older. Happy Holidays Everybody!
