I love watching sports. Theres so much real life drama amazing stories of human achievement. Did you see the Steelers/Chiefs game? Did you notice how much improved the defense was? The Chiefs had the #1 (or 2) ranked red zone defense and the Steelers held them to ZERO touchdowns over coming a successful fake FG and a momentum shifting bad taunting call against Willie Gay. James Harrison was the X Factor for that defense. No, he didnt do it all but the improvement in his play was largely the reason for the improvement in the whole defense. A book was written about his life called Never Give Up. James was not drafted and he was cut from 4 teams before one game in Cleveland where the Steelers were so impressed with his play that they allowed Joey Porter to leave the next season. James was ultimately given a $50 million contract. He left the Steelers for 2 years due to money issues and returned at the request of his former teammates. The opportunity was created by injury to younger players. Joey Porter is now James position coach for the first time this year. James returns at 36 years old and no one expected his play to be anywhere close to his younger days. He regularly posts videos of his weight training on social media. Pressure from James forced the Chiefs to shorten their playbook. The starting OT Eric Fisher was drafted #1 overall in the 2013 draft. Andy Reid single out Fisher for their victory over the New England Patriots. James went through him like a knife through hot butter either making plays himself or creating opportunities for other teammates. James Harrison is a testimony to hard work and resiliency. If you get the chance to attend a game at Heinz field be sure to watch for standout play like James. TV broadcasts dont give you everything thats happening on the field. If youre not sure, try listening to Hilgrove and Tunch on radio but you cant do that while watching TV either because its normally ahead of the TV broadcast. Sports are more than tribalism and testosterone. I think thats why you see more female fans. Theres no better real life entertainment IMO. The time between Christmas and New Years is always better when your NFL team is in the playoffs.
