I love you too!! Yesterday I was in a building in Downtown Seattle and when I got on the escalator, I noticed this man dressed kind of scraggly walking towards the exit carrying what looked like a rifle case and the man looked directly at me and said “Hello nigger”, I smiled and said “Have a nice day”. The people around me seemed confused and asked me if that bothered me and I asked if it bothered them. I told them that the only way it could bother them is if they shared the same meaning of the word as an ignorant person does. A lot of people use derogatory words that they have no clue of the meaning and I call that ‘Vernacular Ignorance’!! For me it has become real easy to simply dismiss the shallow attempts of ignorant people trying to verbally assault me, which usually leaves the sayer’s perplexed, ashamed, and mortified, … perhaps if they look up the meaning, they’ll see that it’s a release of their own insecurities.
