I loved Halloween as a kid growing up in Glendale in the 60s and 70s. The wind blowing Autumn leaves around and the wonderful smell of burning Jack-o-lanterns in the air. Youd begin thinking about what you were going to be weeks.....even months in advance and your costume was always hand made. When the day finally came you couldnt wait until it got dark. Id meet up with my best pals (Johnny Weygint & Billy Wood) and off wed go pillow cases in hand. Running and laughing, block after block..... Chevy Chase down to Harvard St.......over to Adams St........and then to Orange. Eventually wed arrive back home.....panting and out of breath from the excitement of the night. Under the watchful eye of my Dad Id dump the booty Id collected onto the kitchen table for his inspection. Popcorn balls and candy corn. Double Bubble gum and Chick-O-Sticks..... Hersey bars and Jaw breakers. Bit O Honey and Abazabbas.. It was magical.
