I loved "Lost"...until the last season where it devolved into smarmy sappy soap opera. I found the spiritual/religious elements of it to be rather oppressive....the idea that each of us has a few "soul mates" we have to keep finding in each life time or parallel dimension before "going on." The idea of reincarnation I also find repellent....who the hell wants to be a teenager or an infirm elderly person more than once? Nor would I want to have to be stuck with the same people lifetime after lifetime...There are a lot of fascinating people out there whom we will never know.... with reincarnation I would want to link up with them as well. In matters of faith and religion, testing and passing muster are constant themes...life is a continual series of karmic obstacle courses. I thought the island would be a link to some weird time/space continuum. The answer turned out to be like that hokey movie "The Sentinel." Jacob was just guarding the island which controlled the balance of good and evil...yawn...not exactly a novel concept. I like to think that we by our ACTIONS control that. Jacob was luring people to the island in order to test and select his successor who was to kill the evil force (the MIB) Jacob had unleashed. "Lost" IMHO just turned out to be a spiritual variant on "Survivor." For me, the one saving grace was watching that hunky actor Naveen Andrews (Sayid Jarrah)....those soulful eyes of his. Hubba....hubba....
