I loved what my Sister in Law Leslie Kawai Shared about MLK. I love her personal thoughts about making our dreams happen and making our own happiness. Regarded as the most famous speech in American History, Martin Luther Kings words stir my soul each time I hear them. We can never be satisfied as long as our children are robbed of their dignity. We can never be satisfied . . . as long as our children have nothing to hope. I am mindful that some of you have come here out of great trials and tribulations. Continue to work . . . knowing that somehow this situation can and will be changed. Let us not wallow in the Valley of Despair. Even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I STILL HAVE A DREAM. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American Dream. I have a dream . . . we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. When we allow freedom to ring. . . we will be able to speed up that day when all of Gods children---black men and white men; Jew and Gentiles; Protestants and Catholics--will we be able to join hands and say . . . Free at Last! I love Dr. Kings speech because, although I cannot imagine what it would have been like to not be allowed to walk on the same side of the street, go to school, ride a bus, or talk with others simply because of the color of my skin, . . . I face my own mountains; my own injustices; I face my own demons; my own barriers that seem to limit what I believe we all want as human beings: happiness, joy, companionship, safety, security, respect, and love. I am so grateful for Dr. Kings courage. His invitation to create the life and happiness we all want--and to not give up. I admire his commitment, his passion, his purpose. Dr. King reminds me that we EACH can pursue our DREAMS. That, we CAN ACHIEVE THEM! I coach executives nationwide on presentation skills. I teach hundreds of the top college business students on speaking skills. I refer to his speech every semester. Why? Yes, in part because Martin Luther Kings passion, his life, his spirit, his character speak straight to the heart. But also because OUR DREAMS, MY DREAMS, YOUR DREAMS matter! Because when we speak and live and ACT from our HEART . . . we, too, can achieve our dreams! In fact, I believe we should. Thank you, Dr. King, for inspiring me to live my life with passion, commitment, excellence, and for not being satisfied with living each day and contributing to my family and to the world anything less than my best! If you havent watched his speech, I encourage you to watch!! VIDEO: https://youtube/watch?v=smEqnnklfYs&feature=youtu.be TEXT: archives.gov/press/exhibits/dream-speech.pdf Let freedom ring!
