I made it to Cloudcroft, fifteen minutes before curtain time, at the Zenith Park Pavilion, for their last performance of “Misdeeds at Mistletoe Mine” a melodrama by Tim Koenig. The melodrama was filled with a lot of zaniness and quick improvisations. And that is one of the attractions that brought in a full house. The other reason is that this show is interactive. It is acceptable to boo the villains, and cheer the heroes and yelling at the actors from time to time. It is also permissible for the “actors” to yell back at you. If you come to these shows expecting to see a “real” theatre performance, you’ve come to the wrong place. The best thing to do is to buy two bags of popcorn (one to enjoy while you watch the show and one to throw at the villains) yeah, that is permissible as well, and like the rest of us, have a blast. This was the last performance for the season and I can’t wait for next year for some more fun! I met an unexpected friend of mine up there and when she invited me to join her and her friends up at the front, I did just that. This was her first time at a melodrama and it was fun watching her reactions to the performance. After inviting her for a couple of years now, I was glad to see her there. After the performance, she met with a lot of her friends involved with the Melodrama, and not wanting to interrupt, I went and helped pick up the theatre, like I usually do, while she visited. After we finished, I noticed she was now surrounded by fellow “Zumba” dance partners and I knew I lost her. I met with some of the supporting cast members; I have come to know these past few years and we headed to the Western Bar & Café for a cold beer and a game of pool.
