I made this announcement privately but I feel its important I make it publicly as well. As many of you know, I founded a playwrights organization Urban Playwrights United nearly six years ago. I did it at a time where there was no help or support on what some call the urban circuit. What started out with two people, has grown to be the largest urban play network in the country, and whats funny is, we have all expressions of theater and professionals in our network! Coming off of our phenomenal 5th Annual Conference in DC this past December, I realized that it was time for a change, that I could no longer carry the load financially, creatively or even spiritually. Ive had great help down through the years but it was time to kick it up a HUGE notch. So through a process, it ended up with myself and five other ladies who have all been dedicated and steadfast throughout the years to UPU. So actually on January 1, 2015, while everyone was knee high in black eyed peas lol, we all signed the Articles of Organization and Formed a six member LLC. YES, ITS NO LONGER MY COMPANY, BUT OURS...LEGALLY! I posted this because so many times in our community we have this me, my, I syndrome and some folks would rather stay where they are than share the glory so to speak and grow! Well, this vision was way to big for me to handle and already these ladies are making great strides. I teach teamwork and this should be an example that it definitely takes team work to make the dream and work and yes.... BLACK WOMEN CAN WORK TOGETHER DESPITE of what is shown in the media!
