I may end up getting fussed at for this but I just have to say it lol... Five Christiany Things Christians Say To Other Christians Going Through A Hard Time That Dont Help At All: A friend of yours is having a rough time...be it related to family, work, or just life in general. He or she comes to you to vent and or share their frustrations. You want to help; however, using any of the following Christiany phrases will not help: 5. If God brings you to it, Hell bring you through it. Oh thanks....Im totally OK now. I have been a Christian for ____ years and Ive NEVER known that God would help me through things. Thanks for letting me in on this apparently huge secret. Maybe this would be better: Dont feel bad about being frustrated. Even Jesus disciples werent happy at times and they had Jesus right there with them! Im here for you...what can I do? 4. God is in control! Once again, a reminder of something obvious that every Christian knows. Absolutely....the Bible clearly tells us that God is in control of everything.....but nowhere in the Bible is it said that we must be happy about it at all times. God is most definitely in control....but sometimes life sucks! Maybe this would be better: [regarding the shared problem] Wow...what a pile of crap! I cant believe this is happening to you. Feeling the way you do is totally understandable. Just remember...feelings arent always the truth. You can feel a certain way but know the truth in your heart at the same time. Im here for you....what can I do? 3. Gods got it! A slightly more annoying variation of #4. Thanks for telling me that! I now feel 100% better about EVERYTHING! #sarcasm Maybe this would be better: see #4 answer. 2. God will never give you more than you can handle. Ummm...yes He will. If this never happened then why in the world would we need God? This well-meaning phrase is completely unbiblical. If I could handle this then why am I not able to handle it??? I need God more now than ever! Maybe this would be better: Ive been where you are emotionally...its so hard sometimes to trust Him...but it will all be worth it in the end. Im here for you...what can I do? 1. Have faith!: As if having faith is something really easy...you wouldnt say, Have a car! or Have a really good idea! or Have a well-behaved child because those things require time and work...but faith takes a HECK of a lot more time and work than these things and we just flippantly command others to have it as if faith is made stronger by the snap of a finger. Maybe this would be better: Wow...I cant imagine how much you are hurting right now. Having faith is so hard sometimes. Im here for you...what can I do? Yes...I am quite guilty of typing and saying these phrases to dear friends of mine in the past who were going through rough times...they are such easy things to say when you are sitting in a comfortable house having a great day. Lord, help me to improve as a listener every day and have the utmost respect and humility when a friend decides to give me the great honor of confiding in me.
