I may really rub some people the wrong way here. Some may feel I do not understand the magnitude of the Holt Public School budget. Yep... I may never know a multi million dollar a year budget. Even though I once ran a 7 figure plus a year business for a guy. Oh, yea, and my inovations made his most profitable year ever. What I do know....... mine. Mine is based on a base rate. Not overtime. Not supplemented with garage sales. ( ie... projected possible income from outside sources) I make this amount per year. My wife makes this amount per year. Together equals our budget. Budgets should be based on knowns. Overtime and extra money equals savings. I live on specifics, not projections. Maybe we need a board focused on money at hand, outsourcing as an extra,and tightening of the belt starts at the top. I agree the board has a tough job. One I do not have the luxury of running for right now. Our schools are not business futures. .. what we think may or may not happen tomorrow. They are what we know we have based on taxes, and student counts in district. Once we rely on unkowns.... how many kids we can get from other districts. .. I feel we are doomed. That, to me, is akin to speculation of how much I can make with a sign at MLK and 96. Maybe we can focus on the knowns and set aspiration from there. Once the budget is set on fact. Set a goal. Explain the goals. Move as a team towards the goals. Reach the goals. Winner winner! Together, I bet we can move mountains!
