I mentioned a while back that I was going to be going to a primary school to talk to the kids about safety around dogs. Weve done it before at kids organisations like cubs and Rainbows but this time it was to the entire of Key Stage 2 and then Key Stage 1 in two assemblies so needed to alter the presentation a little to make it more appropriate for a larger group. Pleased to say, the kids LOVED it. When they were asked questions at the end they had all learned from it and yesterday, at our visit to the 4 and 5 year olds, we had about 100 4-7 year olds all shout in unison ALWAYS ASK PERMISSION when I asked what must you always do before you pet a dog? :D We also got great feedback from the teachers and the deputy head said shed passed our details onto their partner school in the hope theyd get us to go there too :) Possibly the best part was right at the end when one of the teachers brought up a tiny four year old boy who was scared of dogs, he had tears in his eyes and she wanted him to meet Bubble. I got her to turn around and face me so that he could stroke her back without being near her face and he gave her a little stroke and his face absolutely lit up in an instant. It was beautiful! Heres my little girl doing her bit, so proud of her! She behaved absolutely impeccably at both visits - shes always behaved before with the smaller groups but with one group of almost 100 and another of about 150-200, I knew shed be excited, but as we sat there and they all filed into the assembly hall she was perfect - she just stood there wagging her tail and grinning at them all!
