I met Steve online. It wasnt a dating site, just a random connection in a chat room. You would have to be a 90s kid to understand chatrooms ;). He Lived in Plymouth England. I was twenty and we talked everyday for a year. No photos and no phone calls. Shortly after my 21st he bought a plane ticket to Augusta. My entire social circle thought Id lost my mind. He didnt get a very warm reception. His Scottish Catholic family wasnt to happy with me either. He just left the country to go see a girl who was a waitress? We signed our marriage certificate three months later. Then came immigration. The loss of our first and only child. Medical bills. Job losses. Debt. Fights. Frustration. A marriage certificate that is now held together with tape because one night I was sure it was all over. And ten years later We are still married. In three months it will be eleven years. We made it through all that. We got our finances right side up. We are planning to buy a home so maybe we can adopt a baby since we cant be biological parents. Weve both changed. We arent the same people who met online ten years ago. We both made a decision to love the people that weve become. Who else in the world can understand what we have been through? No one but each other. Who else in the world is going to know everything about you and still live with you? No one but each other. Marriage is damn hard. It isnt for the faint of heart. The reward of walking the gauntlet is with it.
