I met Tony Benn once. We played an outdoor gig along with other acts that was to benefit the trade union movement and in particular the Liverpool dockers. On the way off the stage he greeted us all with a big smile and a handshake saying well done comrade! Unfortunately, I slipped on the step and ended up falling on Tony, grabbing him in an impromptu headlock! He laughed it off but I was mortified! Later on he sat and talked to us about the importance of the unions and came across as an affable and hugely intelligent man. He will be missed.
