I met a dog today! At first glance all I notice is he is huge. I mean big! He stood high enough to overpower even a grown man. He just wanders up to the house I have been working on. This is the first I have seen this dog and he strikes up my curiosity. I walked outside with him and we started our conversation off with growls, snarls, and threats. He stared at me through beady eyes not sure what he should do. I could have easily been the next newspaper report of idiot attacked by strange animal. But, my curiosity got the best of me. I tried something I saw on white fang the movie. I thought I might be intimidating to him so I just sat down and extended my hand out. He takes notice and his ears prick up. He starts in my direction and I am unsure as well as him. I really am not sure what to expect. But the coolest thing happened. He stopped two steps from me and nudges my hand with his nose. Turns out he is as gentle as they come. I won him over by feeding him some goodies and he is lying at my feet as I write this. Who knew the outcome? That we could be friends at first meet like this. Nonetheless this comes to my mind; the potential for this huge dog to harm me is still there. He has the very potential to turn around and bite that hand that fed him. We are like that too! There is some nasty potential in an animal that size and so is there in the heart of man. But get this I am enamored by this ferocious looking dog (named Amos by the way) and the way he humbled himself and ate from my hand. We too can humble ourselves and eat from the Hand of God and lay at His feet at REST, but the potential is still there; to bite the hand that feeds. Today I made myself vulnerable to this dog to test and see if I could win his love and it worked. God made Himself vulnerable and came to us as a Man to win over our hearts. I was spared an attack from Amos the dog today, but Jesus was not spared! God did not spare His own Son for you. So I dare you today to HUMBLE yourself like Amos the dog! The outcome you ask? UNSPEAKABLE JOY!
