I met the publisher or perhaps he should be referred to as a rep? - TopicsExpress

I met the publisher or perhaps he should be referred to as a rep? today He seemed roughly in agreement with my views, although he is anticipating the possibility of an exciting day when he gets back to his office next week! There was a discussion about the amount of bla bla to include in the preface or elsewhere. Someone is his office has decided to cut about 2/3 of what I wrote including the answers to things I often get asked, so we agreed to split it between the preface and a boring bit at the end which people can read or not. He made the point about people in a bookstore open a book and want to see some wow pictures. But do people open a book a t the first page? I open them roughly in the middle. Of course being left handed makes a difference here. I also indicated that we should include at least one photo of every drawing I have made. Simply choose the print size according to the quality of the photo. The result will add a great deal of interest, as there is often a story behind the drawings and if the sole criterion for choosing the photo is the quality, then a lot of the earlier drawings would be excluded. For example, just picking out nice photos will result in the biggest drawing I ever made being excluded. I failed to get good photos, but it is stilll worth including simply because it is the biggest, although I wouldnt reccomend it for a whole - page photo. Something else that surprised me was that if the book was to end with 10 pages of photos followed by 10 pages of bla bla printed in black and white, but then changed to 20 pages of bla bla mixed in with photos, it would not increase the printing cost. So the bla bla is to be mixed in with photos.
