I met this man, Ian, today. Ian was diagnosed with prostate cancer 4 year ago, and once he overcame the illness decided to dedicate the rest of his life to setting up, and raising funds for the charity TEN Foundations which is a childrens charity working to ensure homeless & vulnerable children living in the Philippines have the chance to grow up in a safe & loving environment. Ian has a charity shop on the Lisburn Road (on the town side of the big Tesco) which is a really cool little place where you can go to chill out and drink barista coffee. The premises they use for the charity shop was given to them rent free for a year, so any money you spend in there goes straight to the Charity, and only a minute amount is spent on administration etc. If you have any spare stuff that you dont need then sure head down and throw it in there for them to sell and raise funds for their cause. Theyve also got on sale a load of hand crafted bags and other cool hand crafted stuff made by the Philippinoes living in shanty towns over there, the profits from which go straight to helping rebuild homes etc after a huge storm hit last year and destroyed many of their homes and facilities. Hes truly dedicated his time to something bigger than himself and is spending a huge amount of time and effort in trying improve the lives of others who are substantially less fortunate than us.
