I met up with some old friends on Wednesday for a meal and a drink. It was a great night but there was something unusual about it that I couldnt put my finger on. Suddenly, while out dog walking, it hit me. There were about twenty people in the group and we were together for around four hours. During that time I didnt see one person get their phone or other device out of their pocket. It was just good old human interaction with eye contact, conversation and laughter. We cant uninvent smart phones but people are losing out on social skills and forgetting basic good manners. A phone free period for every household Im sure would bring back the art of conversation. You have to appreciate that Im a grumpy old fart.
