I miss the times when Ottawa beach looked like this. Hopefully the water level will recede and the mudflats will return, inviting the tired little shorebirds to rest and feed along their epic journeys. This photo was taken in September 2011 so these are probably mostly juvenile Semipalmated Sandpipers. A mixed flock of sandpipers and Semipalmated Plovers were flying around me as I walked down the beach and ended up landing nearby and running right past me until they found this log, a perfect place to stop for a rest.
