I must admit I may be a little biased having been Hearst in a past - TopicsExpress

I must admit I may be a little biased having been Hearst in a past life. The one thing that is clearly the winner is the art at Hearst castle. For sheer grandeur Biltmore wins. Because Biltmore is easily accessible to more people than the remote San Simeon estate helps sway the numbers to the Asheville estate. Another factor is that Biltmore is still family owned and money is being put back into the estate. Hearst castle is managed by the state of California. When has government succeed in private enterprise? The winery at Biltmore is exceptional. I was recently at Hearst castle and the Hearst family owned lands around the castle are being turned into an organic winery and free range cattle farms. If I still owned the castle I would have it opened to the public like it is now and bring the grounds to their former state. The place is really run down and money is not being put back into the castle. I would restore the once largest private zoo for viewing and open up horse back ridding along the run down trellis which would also be restore with flowering vines like it once was in my memories. I would also design and build a high end tourist hotel on the estate grounds that would be similar to the castle like Biltmore has done. One of the greatest attractions is the pristine coast of California. I would take advantage of the coast which Biltmore cant match with yacht rides from the pier on the coastal lands and plane rides departing from the estate airstrip. Sigh....
