I must admit Ive been avoiding to look at this issue for a few days. The reason wasnt due to laziness or apathy. In fact it was quite the opposite. I was avoiding it because I was trying to avoid another heartbreak. And now I am sitting here weeping for a man I never heard of until a few days ago. What we see here is a blatant disregard for procedure as Mr. Garner is literally jumped on and placed in an ILLEGAL CHOKE HOLD!!! You can clearly hear him plead I cant breath!!! multiple times. And as he lay there slowly dying it seems the entire police force arrive on the scene. But where were they when the fight he says he broke up occurred? Now, granted, Mr. Garner is a big man. But I refuse to understand why it takes close to half a dozen cops to subdue one man. Perhaps its because I know, when properly trained, it only takes one. These police are in the wrong without a doubt. Regardless of any possible suspicion of wrong doing, they used deadly force on yet another unarmed black man. Most of you who read my posts or replies know I dont play the race card. But in this case its apparent this man has been racially profiled, harassed and eventually killed by unlawful police actions. Even though New York has a new mayor, stop and frisk activity is alive and well. And in this case the protocol has resulted in an unwarranted death. For now Im asking everyone that sees this to at least sign this petition if you already havent. Afterward we must have a discussion about further actions we can take to stop these types of incidents from happening. Please sign the petition and reply done once you do.
