I must get to bed! Early appointment tomorrow. PBS is showing the nuclear bomb tests from the late 40s. I remember the black and white TV newscasts in the 50s of the H-bomb tests. I had a nightmare as a kid that one went off in our backyard and looked like the ones on TV. The H-bomb explosion looked like a huge rising sun - a semicircle of white blazing light! At school we practiced Duck and Cover for sneak attack. Air raid attack was different - line up to go out into the hall and lean against lockers with our arms protecting the backs of our necks. When I was in the third grade, the Lucidol Chemical Plant a quarter mile away blew up. The fireball looked like it was right outside the window! The kids closest to the front lined up to go to the hallway. Those of us further back dove under our desks! Parents came running to the school, fearing the explosion had been there! Eleven men were killed and nearby buildings were damaged! Odd how I watch this documentary with morbid fascination!!!
