I must say Alistair Darling was disappointing last night. Why does he keep going on about the pound when he knows hes not going to get a straight answer? Last night we got the clearest indication yet from Wee Eck - he will use the pound with or without a currency union. Why doesnt he just say so? Darling should have made points like: Why did you lie about having had legal advice on Europe and discussions with the Bank of England? OK, so Salmond put on a better performance last night, but how many undecided voters would have taken the trouble to watch it anyway? The whole business is getting rather ugly now, as seen last night by the way the Yes supporters cheered every point made by wee Eck and jeered when Darling said something they didnt approve of. The independence issue has set Scot against Scot and its going to take a long time for the wounds to heal.
