I must say, nothing else matters...what matters is when yur COACH speaks highly 0f you...that carries into Saturday night and Sunday night games.. Enjoy and again: MERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS Q&A: Farrington coach talks Fehoko, his future Drew Kohnle spoke with Honolulu Farrington head coach Randall Okimoto earlier this week about Breiden Fehoko, the type of person and player he is, and what hell bring to the Red Raiders. Heres the transcript from that, and just like everyone else, Coach Okimoto had glowing remarks about his player that will move to Lubbock in the coming days. What kind of player is Tech getting in Breiden? Well Texas Tech will get a player who is driven, he is motivated, a natural leader. He has three older brothers who received scholarships, and it really set the stage for Breiden. He started for us as a freshman because he knew what he wanted, he wanted to play college football and earn a scholarship and so on. He is a vocal leader, he was a guy who would always ask me if he could speak to the team and he would want to say a prayer, whatever it is. From his freshman year he would ask me those questions. Thats the type of player he is off the field, and of course on the field, he has one of the fastest, quickest first steps for someone at his position. What kind of season did Breiden have on the field this year? He not only took his position group under his wing, he also took the whole defense. He has been the vocal leader and he not only perfected the play of himself, but he elevated the play of those around him as well. We ended up being the best defense that played against the top ranked offense, and we held them to their lowest point total in our last game and thats because of him and his eagerness to lead the team. Especially in the playoffs too, thats where he stepped up his play in the playoffs. He had the most tackles for losses, the most sacks, in our schools playoff history. What are some things he improved on for the season? Technically he improved on taking on double teams and being more of a run stopper. He was always known as a pass rusher, a one-on-one pass rusher type guy at the defensive tackle position. He took it upon himself to understand what he needed to do to take on the pulling guards, the chop blocks in the running game. Those are the areas he really improved his game. How solid is he in his commitment to the Red Raiders? I think he is very solid. He has proven that he feels like family is first. He has Sam and his brother VJ there as well, and of course he considers the coaching staff apart of his family as well. They always talk about family over everything, thats their motto. They are all one big family, thats the reason he is so solid. Of course Texas Tech being a Big 12 school and a competitive school also helped. What are your thoughts on Texas Tech and how is it a good fit for Breiden? Well I have met Coach Mike Smith and Coach Kingsbury and they are down to earth guys, they fit the area well. Texas Tech is a good for them. There isnt much to do outside of football, and the program to me is on the rise. So Breiden with the opportunity to come in and contribute, I think it is a great fit for him to play in, and I look forward to watching him next year. What will you remember most about Breiden? I think I will remember most about Breiden is his ability. At Farrington High School, we have a population of students who are challenged so to speak. 80 percent of our students are on free or reduced lunch, so it is a struggle for some of our players to work hard and have a good work ethic. When a person like Breiden is so dependable in being on time, being at practice, being on the field, and also not using illness to sit out of practice, those sort of things. His dependability and his ability to do his job and lead his position as well, sometimes we take those things for granted and you dont realize until they are missing that you missed them. Is there a specific play that you will remember that Breiden has made? He has made many in his career, but I guess I would say our last playoff game versus Mililani. The quarterback for Mililani was known for his speed and not many people had gotten to him, he was very hard to sack. Breiden actually had a few sacks on him, at least two I think. For that to happen is a good testament to him and his abilities. The kid from Mililani is a pretty fast quarterback, and he can move, thats what really impressed me. I wasnt expecting that from Breiden. I expected for him to get some pressure and have him move out of the pocket but not really catch him and sack him, but he did it twice. Who would you compare Breiden to on the field? He looked like Warren Sapp, and he really reminds me of a Warren Sapp. The way Breiden clogs the middle, but also his quickness, looks a lot like Warren Sapp. As an early enrollee, how much of an impact will Breiden have in his first year? Definitely, he will definitely make an impact. For us, he started as a freshman, he didnt start the whole time , but he was there at practice, there on the sidelines. He was always around. He would work to get on the field in any capacity, and I remember him contributing on punt return, and he would make some great blocks there. Whatever capacity he is on on the team, I know he is going to help because he loves football and he loves being out there. It depends on him and his offseason, and how much he prepares in the offseason will determine how much he contributes to Texas Tech. Will McKay Associate Editor
