I nearly forgot to mention the good deed for the day I performed - TopicsExpress

I nearly forgot to mention the good deed for the day I performed in the wee hours this morning: a wild animal rescue! About 2:00 AM I was awakened by the sounds of what I first took to be a dog-fight in my front yard ... snarling, barking, and several solid impacts against my living room wall. I quickly jumped into shorts and a t-shirt, armed myself, and peeked through my blinds to see what the commotion was. It turned out to be three dogs playing opossum-frisbee on my lawn! So I stepped outside, katana drawn, and stood in the glare of my security lights facing a Rottweiler and two pit bulls (probably American Staffies, but hard to tell in the dark), with a limp, bedraggled opossum lying at their feet. They regarded me warily for a few seconds, then the Rottie snarled and began moving toward me, so with a moderately loud kiai I shuffled forward and raised my sword for a beheading cut - at which point all three dogs turned and dashed away up the street. The opossum looked in bad shape, visibly bloodied with chunks of fur or hide jutting out and no vital signs. I went back into the house and got my cat carrier, thinking that if the little critter was still alive Id need to get it to one of the wild animal vets in the area. But when I got back outside with the carrier in hand, the opossum was nowhere to be found. Imagine that! An opossum playing possum!
