I need a drink. At least that’s what my skin’s been telling me. And not a Chardonnay (although…..). The biggest shift in my regimen is that I can’t live without a moisturizer. This started before the real onset of winter (even though the cold, dry winds have certainly exacerbated things). Perhaps it is age-related (I just turned 55), perhaps it is temporary (we shall see). In the meantime, there are two moisturizers that I can’t live without. The first is Innarah VenoDefense Crème ($300 in the shop). I took some with me on a recent eight-day trip, and that is a sure sign of a dependency. I initially tried this very rich moisturizing cream with a tester pot, and the little thing lasted so long that I began to think the price tag of the full-size might not be all that audacious. When the tester ran out, it was about a week before I caved and sprang for the full $300 (readers, please note that in order to walk the talk I always pay full retail price with no discounts). This has now become my night cream, and I love the way that it makes my skin feel comfortable and supple. The formula includes the full panoply of Innarah’s anti-aging ingredients, and so I don’t feel the need to layer a serum under it (although, sometimes I do, as I will get to later). My second moisturizer is for mornings, and it is I Pekar Moisturizer ($78 in the shop). Now I admit to a little bias here. This is part of the new skin care line by my lovely and longtime esthetician, Ildi, and I know what a labor of love its creation has been. Objectively though, it is a delicious product, almost natural enough to eat and it firms, hydrates and soothes. Raw honey is a key ingredient, as is a peptide that activates an epidermal growth factor (TGF-beta) to stimulate collagen in the skin. It gives my skin a dewy glow and is versatile enough to be used over a serum. Talking of serums, I haven’t been able to give up my mighty MitoQ ($119 in the shop), despite the testing of other products that I have been doing. Regular daily use is having a great impact on my neck, which has always been the last bastion of sun damage. I use it on my face, except for my forehead (this area has been reserved for testing the new Medik8 Firewall – you can read my review on Firewall and see what is has been doing to keep frown lines away). Meanwhile, MitoQ is still a great firmer and skin conditioner. It is always a good sign when I keep using a product after I have written a review, and this is the case with LiftLab Lift & Perfect ($250). I have been using it target my lip lines (stubborn and nasty things in my case), and it is definitely helping. And on the subject of targeting, I should mention Medik8 Red Alert ($60 in the shop). I have just purchased a new bottle and find it very helpful for the apples of my cheeks where I am prone to a bit of rosacea, redness and thread veins. As far as eye creams go, I am testing the new Your Best Face Correct ($150 in the shop). I’ll be writing my review soon, but suffice it to say that this one is a winner. Previous tweaks over the years have improved the product, but this latest reformulation is a game changer. If I weren’t in full test mode, I’d be using the Sciote Peptide+Defense Eye Cream ($65 in the shop) that is in my cabinet. This is a well-priced eye cream that does a decent job. My new all-time favorite cleanser is I Pekar Cleanser ($65 in the shop). It manages to be light and creamy, gentle but cleansing and delightfully scented with honey and ginger. From time to time, I do feel the need for gentle exfoliation, which is when I will reach for Blissoma Fresh Mild Rice Facial Cleanser ($31.99). I don’t use a toner every day, but when I do, it is Sweetsation C*Bella Organic Brightening Toner ($24 in the shop). And now, a word about devices and some new things to come. I alternate between Truth Vitality Lux Renew ($249 in the shop) and the Truth Rejuvenate ($220 in the shop) (on different days, adding up to four times a week in total). I precede my treatments with Sciote Super Moist Hyaluronic Serum ($72 in the shop) (my little DIY attempt at Ildi’s Boost facial treatment). And I am excited to be testing my new Truth Vitality Treatment Gel with the devices and expect to launch it at the beginning of February. A post-treatment serum is also in the works, but it is a few more weeks off. Finally, my minimalist makeup kit boils down to W3LL People Narcissist ($38 in the shop) as my concealer/foundation and the W3LL People Realist X ($24 in the shop) for a finishing powder that helps keep the shine off my dime. I am getting to the point in life where I want to look a bit more turned out or finished, and I feel that an extra dab of makeup here and there is what I need.
