I need a teeny tiny splinter of oak wood for a project, and had noticed this incredibly thick, twisted old tree growing nearby to where I work. So this morning, I wandered down to see if it had a twig or two to spare. In the process, I found that the HUGE trunk is almost completely hollow, and has actually been bricked up and concreted in at some point (by the looks of it, many many years ago) to stop it from collapsing. The tree is still hearty and hale. Still growing away around all the bricks and all the concrete. Isnt life so beautifully tenacious?
