I need help. Im at my whits end and broken hearted for Ray. He is suffering from the worst separation anxiety Ive ever heard of. We have tried everything I can think of. He is a perfect dog when we are home - its when we leave he acts out through chewing furniture until the point of destruction. We have 4 pieces of furniture damaged now, some beyond repair. We always give him a 45 minute walk before we leave for work in the morning, and 2 longer walks in the evenings. We tried yuck herbal sprays for the furniture, multitudes of toys to entertain him, including a stuffed kong. He has a brother that behaves well when we are gone. Weve covered the furniture. Weve been through 3 crates - all destroyed, including scratching himself and breaking a tooth on his way to getting out. Weve tried herbal anti-anxiety and he is now on real meds, for the past 10 days, with little change. Weve had a dog behaviourists in the home. Weve gone to obedience classes. Nothing is working and Im sick when I have to leave him and even worse when I head home because I dont know what I will find. Do I say the heck with the furniture? When hes done with that will he move to drywall and cupboards? Its been over 5 months. Tim and I dont leave him unattended unless were going to work. We have someone come in to doggy sit when we have to go out together - which is an entirely different pressure on my life. No vacations together! Doggy day care would run us $125+/week and I dont see this as a viable option (or long term solution) for us. Please help friends.
