I need some advice: Occasionally the administrators of this group will receive requests to join it from people who are not band alumni or even Auburn alumni. There is a separate, closed group that is limited to members who are really Auburn Band alumni so I believe that it is OK to have a group like this one that includes a broader membership of friends. However, I am struggling with where to set the criteria for admitting members to this group. Obviously, anyone who has ever been a member of an Auburn band, whether they graduates of Auburn or not, should be admitted. I have admitted band members from other universities and Auburn alumni who are fans of the band but not members. But I am always unsure about what to do with requests from people who appear to have never been students at Auburn, especially if they appear to be from foreign countries (even if they now live in the United States). I dont want to discriminate against anyone but as a group administrator, I need to try to protect the members of this group. There are evil people online who target the unwary and gullible on social media and one way that they find targets is by joining Facebook groups. I cannot help but wonder about the motivations of anyone who has never been an Auburn student who wants to join an alumni band group. In order to be fair, it may be necessary to adopt a rule that membership in this group will be limited to people who have been Auburn band alumni. I would like to learn the opinions of the members of this group. Please advise me with your comments.
