I need some advice from anyone with knowledge or experience in dealing with internal bleeding, possibly a stomach ulcer, in a dog with IMHA. Stewie was only diagnosed with IMHA a couple weeks ago, and started on multiple meds, including prednisone, cyclosporine and mycophenolate. He is still in critical care, and although we have seemed to stabilize his IMHA now (todays PCV 32%), he has developed pancreatitis and ileus. He is on GI motility and stomach protectors. However, today the vet told us his stool is like a black tar-like diarrhea, which is indicative of internal bleeding, and she is thinking maybe a bleeding stomach ulcer. The vet wants to consult with the other internists there to determine the course of action, which may have to include decreasing his prednisone. He has only been on the prednisone two weeks at this point, so decreasing his prednisone is very scary because it puts him at risk for a relapse of his IMHA. This is terrifying and he really needs some prayers tonight. Any advice, suggestions, or experience with any of this?
