I need some help on a history of RHS. I know this is a giant short in the dark, nonetheless its worth a try. I have begun research on a short history of Revere High School. This is not a history on the life & times of individual classes. Instead its intended to be a brief overview of the the physical plant itself and touching slightly on the institutional aspects as well. For purposes of organization I have categorized RHS as falling into 4 different generations: 1, Neighbor, back in the 1800s we had no high school so the town paid any neighboring municipality to educate Revereites. This usually meant the student/s had to live with some family in the neighboring town. The Town of Revere paid the educational bill and the students family paid the bill for room & board. Preliminary research indicates places like Boston, Charlestown, Chelsea, Roxbury, etc were chosen. Generation 2, Covers the era of an actual building being partially dedicated for use as a high school. The building chosen was a grade school, with 1 then 2 rooms set aside for a high school. This school was located on Walnut Ave. Back in my younger days we knew it as the Prince Strauss Jewish War Veterans Post. Today the Carl Hyman Senior Citizen Housing tower occupies this spot. DOES ANYONE HAVE A PICTURE OF THE OLD PRINCE STRAUSS POST? IF SO PLEASE DISPLAY IT HERE AND ILL COPY SAME. Generation 3, Concerns itself with the grand ole building that once stood where now stands the Immaculate Conception Church. Back in my school days this was a U shaped building bounded by Beach St., Winthrop Ave., & Lowe St. However, it was originally built as an L sharped building bounded by Beach St. & Winthrop Ave. The Lowe St. side of the building was added on later. If youre unfamiliar with this portion of the ole RHS, this may refresh your memory, on the basement floor were the classrooms of Mr. Kenneally, Mr. Dwyer, and Mr. Barrows. Now, this is an even bigger short in the dark: DOES ANYONE KNOW WHEN THIS ADDITION WAS CONSTRUCTED? Again if you do please post the info here. The only way to find out would be to research somewhere between 750 to 800 back copies of the Revere Journal --- needless to say that would take a humongous amount of time. Generation 4, Is the current RHS located on, the appropriately named, School Street. Thank you for your time, Don Zollo, Sr.
