I need to get this off my chest, so I can *finally* just go to work and do my goddam job. Im a telecommuter. I use a company-issued Lenovo laptop and a VPN connection to authenticate into the company network every morning and do the same work I would be doing in a cube farm. It runs an enterprise-maintained copy of Windows 7. At my own expense, I replicated in my home office the same dual monitor setup that is standard for the company I work for. Via a KVM switch, the same monitors, keyboard and mouse interface into my personal home computer, running Linux Mint. I also have a Logitech wireless headset, which works in conjunction w/Cisco IP telephony software to provide me the functional equivalent of a desktop telephone (this is *not* on an A/B switch, since its for work only). This morning while I was reading thru my emails, one of my two monitors flickered and went out. Popping the KVM over to my Linux box confirmed that the monitor was just fine...Windows just didnt want to see it. Multiple reboots and config changes later, Windows finally decided to give me my monitor back-- only now my headset was no longer working. Multiple reboots and config changes later, the headset was still fubar, so I replaced it with an identical headset/transmitter purchased at exactly the same time-- which worked. I strongly suspect that I could swap back in the headset that failed without a hitch, but I have work to do. I HATE Windows with a cold and consuming passion. I hate Microsoft almost as much as I hate the Republican Party... and for highly similar reasons. If any of you M$ fanbois and apologists out there feel like a good flamewar, feel free to tell me how wrong and full of crap I am. Ive been yelling and cursing at the goddam computer for the last hour-- Id be more than happy to yell at something that yells back.
