I need to put this out there to all my rescue friends and network - TopicsExpress

I need to put this out there to all my rescue friends and network partners...a statement was made tonight by a good networker who, fraught with frustration over the seniors being overlooked at the shelters, was making a good point about how some rescues say they are full when asked to help but turn around and take in cute puppies! Here is what I wrote...its very frustrating but at the same time do we really know the whole story? By Donna Mason: I think what some dont realize is the stuff that goes on behind the scenes for every rescue. We all want to save every dog that crosses our page however its not possible. I know the rescue I volunteer with will always take a dog with a qualified foster and IF THE FUNDS ARE THERE TO SUPPORT THAT DOG! Take me for instance...I just had one get adopted and thought it was going to stick. So I agreed to take another urgent one that came up because I was THE ONLY OPEN FOSTER. Once I took him, my previous foster was returned the next day! Now I have one too many because I cant stand for them to go to boarding! If anyone was available to help me in my group they would have taken the new one but there isnt a LARGE DOG foster available! Sometimes there are only small breed, puppy fosters or mom/puppy fosters open. It really depends by rescue. It seriously frustrates me and everyone else involved. My hubby LOVES the seniors...our last 2 were seniors and so easy! But time, place, situation dictates what can be taken in and when. I hope everyone reading this understands for some rescues, this is the case on a day to day basis. There are a few rescues that cherry pick their dogs and only take the cute adoptable puppies and I think we all can tell who they are right away. For the rest of us, we try hard to take in all that we can but without fosters for every type, every age, every breed, it just isnt possible
