I need to shade some light; the city of Macha is borrowed from - TopicsExpress

I need to shade some light; the city of Macha is borrowed from Abu Dhabi more than Dubai. Abu Dhabi is rich in Gas, they don’t spend much, and they are reserved. They learn from case studies of Dubai. They have the Formula1 that Governor Mutua is craving for. They have a city which was build from oil and gas income unlike Macha which was launched and foundation set by Kenyan tax, followed by giving the investors land for free to entice them. Quick questions, what will sustain Macha City? What is the time frame? Dubai is a desert, hence no drainage problems or much investments in foundations of building and yet it has taken many years. How will the local people benefit? I am told they will get jobs, really? I will be keen to see. Did u know Kibira is in Nairobi City? Is the county government doing enough to make sure the local people will not look like Kibira one day? Do we have the right team with the right experience in place and mentoring the local people to manage recourses by taking over the positions now and in the future? How many graduates and professionals in Macha have been involved? Dubai is a business and tourism center. Their business model is quite different with what Macha wants to do. They have majored on tourism, real estate and manufacturing. Dubai is expected to attract 15 million tourists from all around the world in 2015. Euromonitor released a ranking of the worlds 150 most visited cities by international tourists in 2009; Dubai ranks 7th, Dubai hosted a record 10 million visitors in 2012, an increase 9.3% from last year. Dubai ranks 1st for luxury homes in the world. How did Dubai rise? Dubai took a risk of borrowing huge loans. They started constructing tall buildings and islands. This attracted many investors, from construction companies, food processing companies and real estate business started booming. They run out of cash in 2008 because of financial crisis. They stopped projects worth billions of USD, up to date they are still pending. Abu Dhabi helped them pay part of the loan, that’s why tallest building is called Burj Khalifa named after the Sheik of Abu Dhabi. With all this money it has taken many years to be where it is now. Macha people should know this city will take many years before substantial benefits are experienced. This dream can be a reality, yes we can materialize, but the journey is long, brace yourself for the trip. As Macha people we should be involved in this city, get the best jobs. All this cities made in the world, the locals got the best jobs, nothing less than this. We will not allow another Rift Valley. We all know history. Let’s support this great idea and demand our involvement and be ready to participate as required in the constitution. We will give it time, but we will not keep quite till we are listened and fully involved. This city should never be allowed to be a cover up of other pressing needs.
