I need to take a minute to THANK and put the spotlight on one of DDB Nashvilles AMAZING Volunteers (and one of my dear friends) Pauline Landry . She is such a wonderful example of how your voice can be the difference between life and death for a Chained Dog. Although it can be very scary to approach the owner of a chained dog and talk with them about improving their dogs living conditions, we ALL have the courage inside us to go knock on that door! Last week the temps were below zero in Nashville. Pauline and her daughter went to every neighbor with a dog chained outside and knocked on the door. They were kind and not judgmental. They offered assistance, not accusations. They brought straw to give insulation to the dog houses. They offered to bring the dogs inside their own home overnight to get the dogs out of the cold. Not one single person yelled at them. People were appreciative of their offer of help. One of the sweet chained dogs they came across was a young Lab Mix named Polar Girl. She was miserable, isolated, very thin, suffering in the extreme cold with just a plastic dog house for protection. She also had straight liquid diarrhea. Turns out the owners were SO THANKFUL for Paulines offer of help. They did not have the funds to help their dog. She had been suffering for a long time and they did not know what to do for her. Pauline was able to convince them that surviving all alone at the end of this chain was NO LIFE for this dog. They signed Polar Girl over to us that day! Our every so generous donors stepped up again and covered all of her vetting (which included a 4 night stay at the vet). Polar Girl is now being fostered by anther long time DDB Supporter, Elizabeth Hecht, where this sweet gem of a dog is learning how to live inside a home and be a cherished member of a family! Together you all were the miracle that this dog has been dreaming about for years! It all started with Pauline finding her courage to do something scary. Through finding that strength, she literally saved this dogs life! Please, if you know of a chained dog, find your strength. Be their voice because they cant scream out Please, somebody HELP ME. You might be their only chance at survival. Take some treats, some straw, a tether (to get them off a heavy chain), a toy, some food, SOMETHING to offer an olive branch to the owner. Knock on that door with the desire to help BOTH the owner and the dog (even if the owner does not deserve it). By helping the owner, you will in turn help the dog! Thank you Pauline for saving this girl and countless others in your neighborhood. May your compassion and courage be the inspiration that so many others need! Thank you Liz for giving this girl the life she was always meant to live! Polar Girl is living inside a home with 4 other dogs. She is SO loving and calm. She has fit right in as though she has lived there her entire life. You can tell this dog truly understands what has happened to her. She is SO THANKFUL to these women who stepped up and saved her! Our DDB Nashville Team ROCKS
