I never knew there were so many half-crazy people in Jamaica until I turned the corner into Tom Redcam drive and say a theatre carpark full of cars at 5 IN THE MORNING. They were there to see the NDTCs Morning of Music & Movement 2014...the 33rd version of the delightful presentation conceptualised by the late Rex Nettleford. The producers seemed satisfied with their show and congratulations were exchanged all around. Of course, preferences will vary. I loved the shimmering white gowns of the NDTC singers with black & white plaited waistbands. Very elegant. My favourite dance for the morning was Were You There When They Crucified My Lord danced by Kevin Moore, a macho and highly interpretative performer (who later served me coffee with a disarming smile...youd never believe he was the same virtuoso solist just seen on stage. Wow! His choreographer was Clive Thompson. Great work guys. Bert Roses STEAL AWAY ( a Tribute to the late Eddy Thomas) had Berts stamp of clean lines & segues, colour combination and elegance. I enjoyed the singing of a young Conrod Hall...and did I enjoy the ensemble dancing of a quartet of (I believe they are not yet full Company members) young ladies in RED... Den better dan cooked food. The furure of NDTC is in good nick with those four on board. Congrats also to my personal darling, Marlon Simms, who is developing his skills as choreographer. His Opening Legacy(2014) was a super opening number. There were steel pans and drums and the (frequently lacking) lustre of theatre was very much aglow. A drama student from the EMCVPA, named Samantha Thompson, enthralled us when she belted Changes a-coming No need to mention that the house was FULL! Me say!
