I never met Robin Williams and I had no personal relationship to him. I wasnt a big fan of his comedy. I never watched Mork & Mindy, and by the time I was old enough to pay attention to stand-up I found his manic style to be more annoying than entertaining. I often switched the channel if he was the guest on a late night talk show. I liked some of his films but I never made it a point to watch a movie just because he was in it. You could even argue I wasnt a fan of his acting. My favorite roles of his were the ones where he played kind, compassionate, inspiring characters. But you really dont have to do much acting when all those traits are already so present inside your soul. From everything Ive ever heard, he was a warm, generous, enormously kind human being. And to me that trumps anything I may or may not have liked about his body of work as an artist. In a planet full of assholes, the world was a better place with Robin Williams around, and thats why I wish he wasnt dead.
