I never really thought much about the demographics of my northwest Sanger neighborhood until this morning. The sun was just coming up and neighbors were just beginning to stir when Dundee and I started our walk. We encountered two different people – both about my age – picking up a neighbor’s morning newspaper from the driveway and moving it to the doorstep. In one case it was because the neighbor was “on oxygen” and in the other the neighbor had just had surgery and walking out to the driveway would have been difficult. Dundee reminded me there is only one family in our neighborhood with a child in high school – none any more, that we know of with middle school or elementary school students. We decided we now live in a geezerhood. No more school open houses to attend and no prom parties to keep us awake. We have mixed emotions about both those things. On the way home we stopped to pick up a couple of newspapers from driveways and move them onto doorsteps.
