I never understand Y movies always depict people lost without a compass, using stars to navigate. The brightest star in the sky is the North Star, however the brightest object (not including the moon) on most nights is Jupiter, excluding nights when Venus is out. The second or third brightest object, dependent on the status of Venus, is Saturn. These planets travel the ecliptic plane along with the Sun, Moon and Venus traveling East to West. By watching their motions, east and west can be deduced and by extension north and south, now you have a compass. Much simpler than any Stellar usage.*
