I never understood the need for scopes on a rifle unless you are - TopicsExpress

I never understood the need for scopes on a rifle unless you are aiming at something a mile away. In January of 1966 I took my rifle test with my M 14 . It was 32 degrees and snowing , sleeting and raining . I achieved bulls eyes at 500 yards which it is the maximum distance for an m14. As far as accuracy goes. I also had multiple bullseyes at 300 yards at that point the test was less than half over and the instructor told me to take several short range shots which I hit the mark on all them. Because of the weather we had a choice of whether to take the tests that day or defer to another day. I achieved a perfect score that day n was awarded an expert rifleman badge. I attribute that to my many hours of practice with my Winchester 94 , . 32 special with hard sights. Today I could stand 20 feet away from a barn door with my double barrel 12 gauge double barrel shotgun with 18 inch barrels loaded with 00 buckshot and totally miss the doors . Its all in the eye sight . Lol maybe I should buy a rifle with a scope on it .
