I never would have believed things could be worse than Teresa - TopicsExpress

I never would have believed things could be worse than Teresa Scanlan. She is the worst Miss America in history. Heres just a tiny taste of what criticism feels like. Criticism that is posted by someone who presumably believes it wont be seen by the individual spoken about. These are just a couple of the comments that have been posted ever since the Miss America 2015 pageant on Sunday. Apparently Im in the category of worst Miss Americas, along with our new Miss America, Kira Kazantsev. In that case, Im honored. I will be praying for Kira nonstop this coming year, as she faces what will almost certainly be the most difficult time of her life. Every person needs to understand that words have power. Listen, I understand having your own opinion. I had my favorites this year, as we all did. However, just because you dont particularly care for the winner does not mean that social media or ANYWHERE ONLINE is the appropriate place to voice that. You can talk to your friends about it privately, but public comments are simply never warranted. The internet backlash against Kira has been horrible and I just cant stand it any longer. I will be deleting and/or unfollowing anyone who posts mean-spirited comments toward her from now on. Constructive criticism is one thing; pure hate is another entirely. It is truly incredible how mean humans can be to each other without really knowing anything at all about the other. Here are some facts about our new Miss America that you may not have known: (thanks to Parade) 1. She’s trilingual As the daughter of Russian immigrants, Kazantsev speaks Russian, English, and Spanish. 2. She triple-majored at Hofstra University As an undergraduate at Hofstra University she triple majored in political science, global studies, and geography. She’s already been accepted by Fordham University’s Law School too. 3. Her platform is domestic violence After being in an abusive relationship in college, Kazantsev chose the issue as her platform to spread awareness of the often quiet cruelties perpetrated against women. Miss America family, please. Some of you dont care for Kira, just as many people dont care for me. But please understand that every person is worthy of respect and kindness. There are diplomatic and compassionate ways to voice your opinion without destroying the soul of a girl who will find herself alone for most of her year, crying in her hotel room, not believing shes worthy of living another day. Believe me, I know.
