I normally put up our Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving, - TopicsExpress

I normally put up our Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving, instead of shopping, but since Thanksgiving is a week later this year, I put up our christmas tree this week. As I look at it, I take a minute to reflect. I look at the lights and I feel instant comfort, warmth. I begin to think about the memories that began around the tree. When I say memories, I dont mean memories of gifts....I mean memories that bring a family together. I remember my mom teaching me how to hang and evenly disperse all the ornaments (haha). But most importantly, I remember the years and times that brought family together to laugh, smile, and share. I am also reminded about what we celebrate and why. I believe that it is important to make it fun for the kids but to also teach them about the reason for the season....about how it all began and that it isnt all about Christmas gifts! Now that I am a parent, I wish that my parents didnt feel so much pressure to get me the gifts that I thought I needed. After working in retail for years, I never understood why people came in pissed off and stressed out about finding a gift. If you dont enjoy buying it, you shouldnt be buying it! Christmas isnt about being excited about what materialistic thing you will receive. This year, I laid eyes on the most amazing gift of life!! That my friends, is what it Is all about! This christmas, take a minute to stop and think about what in your life truly makes you HAPPY....and Im sure you will realize, its NOT the gifts.
