I note that the new Pinewood Studios website has no mention of a single person anywhere that I can find.. Im sure there are some somewhere but they must be deep in the menus. The industry that I worked in for 20 years was about people first, and businesses followed whoever they knew could deliver the goods and get things on air, on time and on budget..and many of us learned the hard way over many years to develop that ability and following.. Post acquisition of Pinewood Studios from Rank, the realization of this fact threw a large monkey wrench into the plans of the architect....because it meant he didnt have total control, he would have to trust people.. What followed was a systematic removal of anyone with a reputation in the industry.... and that was a fair few people, with a collective experience and reputation that was very significant.. And represented in this new website is the culmination of that plan executed clinically over many years.. the total depersonalization of the business into cold facts and figures.. Long gone are the days when we could wander the lot and people would stop to say hi, most of us knowing each other from the biz, in some cases stopping shooting to chat... But despite the clean, safe robotic approach of the new website that uses words like creative - it is as uncreative and sterile as a stainless steel sink.. I am still very sure that the industry wants to follow people who can deliver and will only go to a faceless depersonalized menu driven business if they have to.. And I believe that the unless they have to is also the key indicator of the architects manic desire to acquire, develop and destroy in order to control the whole train set... Ultimately the industry we all love... loses.. Truthfully Im glad to be out of it for some long time now but I feel for those whos commitment, passion, creativity, friendship, loyalty and integrity has culminated in them being just a line on a spreadsheet..
