I note the news that the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is looking at the way the UK ( This government ) has treated disabled people. dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2735958/UN-sparks-fury-launching-human-rights-investigation-Britain-s-treatment-disabled.html I do believe that actions, rhetoric and the generally unsympathetic attitude clearly displayed by the government and IDS in particular has been very damaging, has set disability rights back years and has allowed a hardening of attitudes toward disabled people, leading to some pretty nasty verbal abuse. However, I wonder what will emerge in terms of remedial actions, and also am more than a bit dubious about some member states of the committee who really are the pot calling the kettle in term of human rights. Its the political ground roots of this review I feel which is going to stifle it. We needed a reality check and not a left v right set of arguments. Disabled people will not be winners in this I fear.
