I noticed that I have a tendency to befriend members of oppressed people. Chief among em Afghans by there own, Ahamadis in Pakistan, and Bahai in Iran. Furthermore among older people in my even younger days I have known people who lived through the Great Depression, Native Americans, Holocaust survivors, and Japanese Americans who had family in the Japanese Internment Camps of which said members I had or even still have the honor of knowing I had befriend. To say I am for the underdog is an understatement. If one member of a community does right by me I try to do right by all of their kin. A few years ago when I was employed by Muslim, UU, and LGBT friends (yeah what a combo right) were a big a help in helping me keep my sanity and patience during that time. Anyhow ya get the idea and I am sure the list shall go on and on as I live on and on getting older ;)
